Santaquin Peak

Yesterday Adam Fabrikant said he just wanted to get out of the Cottonwoods.  Since Utah County never disappoints we figured we'd head down and see how bad their snow pack was.  Turns out it's not great.  We fought through facets and bushes for the first few thousand feet of the day until we found reasonable skinning on the long ridges of Santaquin Peak.  Not wanting to retrace our miserable skinner we decided to ski some west facing trees.  We found 5000' of surfy facets and consolidated powder. Utah County did not disappoint.

This morning I met Teague in Little and skied a quick Suicide Chute. He had 50 minutes to ski and get into work at Snowbird.  Luckily he's fast. The snow was dry and not too tracked.  I guess Little Cottonwood doesn't really disappoint either...

Here are a few pictures and a poorly made video of Santaquin Peak.

  1. Awesome footy. Dorks on the Summit... classic. Skiing w/ skate poles certainly throws you in the backseat - knockin' out a wall-sit for 5k, that's beastly. I swears every time I read about the Dorais bros exploits into Utah county, the less satisfied I'm with wasangeles, sans lake-effect of course. Just can't beat the 10-min commute to the trailheads, though. Stoke meter pegged on the steep burrned-out tree skiing.
