Kings summit 2012 |
Last Friday Lars and I decided to go see how fast we could run up Kings Peak. Lars had family in town so we decided to leave SLC at 6am in order to be back for the P-Day fireworks later that night. This was less than ideal since I was working until 2am. I should have said no but Lars is persistent. He drove and I slept until we hit the Henry's Fork TH around 8:30. Our plan was to go controlled hard the whole day in order to avoid cramping as this would be 10 miles longer than my longest run of the year. Starting and ending at the trailhead logbook, here are our splits:
Bridge - 45 minsGunsight Pass - 1:32Summit - 2:18:57 (turned around 30 secs later)Gunsight Pass - 2:57Bridge - 3:31TH - 4:13:29
The day went exactly as planned; never redlining it but steady/hard the entire time. As far as we can tell, that's a new FKT on Kings. The other two times we could find were 4:34 (8/14) by Dan Gardiner and 4:47 (7/14) by Anna Frost. It was a good effort for us but there's A LOT of room in that time. Seems like sub 4 hours should happen sooner rather than later.
This is super cool! Nice work
ReplyDeleteNicely done on 5 hours of sleep! I did it in 4:48 back in 2011 and knew there was a ton of room in that for someone with a lot more speed. I bet you're right that there are some who can dip under 4, but probably not many.
